Hey! 🙂

Hope you are all doing well here 🙂
My name is Milica Jovanov, the artist behind Mima’s Artwork. So, let’s talk about the name first. For me, it was much easier to go with ‘’Mima’s Artwork’’ since Mima was already my nickname and people could pronounce it without any issues, and the reason for it is that my real name and surname would be pronounced wrongly most of the time, it happened to me many times before because I lived approximately 4 years abroad, so I just thought of this solution to make everyone’s life easier. 🙂

Apart from that, this nickname was given to me by my great grandad when I was very little, I was attached to him very much, and I always loved that nickname because he gave it to me, so when I was deciding about the name, I really wanted to honor him by representing myself to the world with this nickname.

So, there, that’s a small story behind my ‘’Mima’s Artwork’’ name. 🙂

Anyways, let’s start with some basic things, I am going to share both private and art stories with you here, so you could get to know me at least through these scribbled lines here. I remember that my art teacher told me once: ‘’You have to get to know the artists or read about their lives first so you could trust their work. If you want to learn anything from anybody, you have to know him as a person first so you could trust them.’’ So, here we go. 🙂

I am 30 years old, I live in a small city in Serbia. I live with two persian, gorgeous cats. I am spending my days in my art studio, gathering ideas, drawing, painting, planning business, editing videos, creating tutorials, thinking, overthinking, listening to music, dancing, swinging in my egg-shaped swing, observing things, petting, and playing with my cats, resolving personal and business issues, drinking coffees and absorbing the energy from just being in my studio because- I finally have it and I couldn’t be more grateful for it.

This was such a dream for me, having a separate room where I can create my own studio in it. This dream became a reality in 2021. and I am still trying to get used to the fact that I have a studio cause It’s just such a special feeling. Anyways, this is usually what my every day looks like. I don’t have much time for private life and honestly- I don’t feel like I need it. I am quite an introvert so I just love spending time with my two cats and being in my own creative space-studio-mess.

Okay, so I would like to tell you more about how it all started. I was 6 years old when I started to draw. What triggered it is the war that my country went through in 1999. We were bombarded for three months straight, every day. Even though I was little, I remember things, such as needing to bring the candles everywhere with me cause we didn’t have the electricity, the terrible sound of sirens, the sound of bombs falling, and people, terrified yelling on the streets. So, I remember that I knew that something bad was happening but I was too little to understand all of it. Anyways, my mother was quite scared and she wanted to kind of take our minds from that terrible situation, so she started pulling out the video tapes that we had in our video club wanting to show us how we can draw what we see on the cover of each tape. So, there were loads of characters like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Land Before Time, etc… And, she showed us some basic things. Now, I remember what was in my head once I finished my first official drawing that was made in this way. I remember thinking how powerful it is to be able to create something so original, that nobody can create in the same way as you, and you just created something with your own hands.

I thought how awesome, cool, powerful, and original that is! So, since then, I was drawing regularly. I knew that one day, I will have to find a way to become a full-time artist. I loved every part of that idea.

Fast forward, I enrolled in college, finishing and getting my degree in fashion and textile design. It took me years to come to where I am now. I worked many jobs, trying to support myself through my studies and after my studies, whilst I was building up this path. It wasn’t easy at all. I worked multiple jobs at the same time just so I could invest in my art career and support myself cause, Serbia is pretty much a poor country, the salaries are very low and the cost of living is basically the same as in every other country so, I decided to go abroad cause I realized I couldn’t make my dream come true working 24/7, I didn’t have the time to work on my art almost at all, and, with the little time I had I was exhausted from work and not inspired at all.

I spent years working abroad and working on my art at the same time. And, from 2021- I became a FULL-TIME ARTIST. A dream come true. I live my dream now. I am living it.

This is why I have a strong desire to help other people, help beginners, or people who want to improve their art skills. I’ve been there. I know the struggles, I know all the possible thoughts that can come into your mind during the beginning stages. These are all the reasons why I wanted to start producing all kinds of tutorials and classes, so I could help other people succeed as well.

And for me, it’s not just about art- about drawing. It’s that feeling of having the slightest impact on somebody else’s path, having the ability to help out someone throughout the world- even by just saying a few words of support. It’s about reaching other people and welcoming them into the art world by supporting, helping, teaching, guiding and motivating them. This is the most powerful thing that we can do for each other during our lifetime.

So, I don’t know where, when, and how my journey will end exactly, but I know that during this journey, I will help other people to find their own artistic path, discover their passion for art, embrace all the goods and all the bad that comes to it and – succeed in the end. I know that we can all do this.

If I could do this, so can you! 🙂

Much love!

Mima
